Today I was practically chased out of our backyard shed by these very angry wasps (not sure what kind those are). I’m sorry, but as much as I respect Mother Nature and all its inhabitants, these guys have to go!
I blame V. His “They don’t touch me, I don’t touch them” approach clearly didn’t work. A week ago the nest was about the size of an avocado seed. Now this thing has grown into melon size! Obviously it keeps growing and obviously I can’t get to the shed without being stung like today. (the prize you pay for wanting to get closer and get a picture!) Good thing I’m one of those weirdoes that doesn’t mind an occasional wasp bite, but not when it’s done on my turf!
Did you have a wasps nest? Do you know a harmless way of removing it?
Eek! I was stung 10 times at once during my first summer in university... I was working at the African Lion Safari (near Cambridge), and disturbed a nest when I climbed onto an unused elephant loading platform to hang out some recently washed blankets to dry. I've been kind of scared of wasps ever since. They just keep stinging!
ReplyDeleteOh, my! 10 times at once? How did you survive? I guess my itchy, red ear is nothing compared to what you had!
DeleteTotally late to this party, and you've probably gotten rid of it by now, but we had a huge one last year hanging off the side of our roof. We ended up buying a spray (I've seen it at WalMart and Home Depot) called Wasp Off. Wait until late at night when the wasps are sleeping and spray the ever loving crap out of the nest. You'll see them start to fall to the ground when the spray starts working. Once you've totally saturated the nest, cut it off from your building. We just held a big garbage bag underneath it to catch it. They haven't been back since...
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
