Baby G’s nursery

One of the coolest things of being a parent is that you get to relive/realize things from your own childhood. I always wanted to have a mural in my room as a kid. They were very popular back in Soviet Union and I remember seeing them at the doctors’ office, library or on the walls of my kindergarten. The scale, the colours, the whimsical characters - I was fascinated by them as a kid.

So when we found out we were going to be parents, I knew I wanted to paint one for my baby’s nursery: And here it is. Perhaps, not as perfect as I thought it would be, but I am happy with it. My goal was to be original with the characters. For some reason, I wanted to stay away from Disney:) And use lots of colour!

Besides the mural, there is one more detail in the room that I like a lot. The doily pendant. It's special because it was the first diy project for the baby that V and I both worked on and it's also made of doilies made by my grandma:)
The rest of the room décor is pretty low-key. No mobile, fancy toys or expensive pieces of furniture. Our “changing table” underneath the mural was an old tv stand donated to V on one of his moves that he spray painted white. The corner closet and the crib were both from Ikea.

Sputnik for our hallway

So while V is plastering walls and getting the floor in our entryway ready to layout the tile, I’m looking at some light fixture ideas. And this is the fixture I’m dying to get for our hallway: A Sputnik light fixture! Not only does it look spactacular, minimalistic and stylish, it’s named and resembles the famed Russian satellite Sputnik 1. I’ve always been infatuated with space and everything that comes with it, so this fixture (in brass, preferably) is a must! And yes, I did love “Gravity” no matter how inaccurate that movie might have been:)

There is this one at Ikea that resembles the look a bit but I’m not a fan of plastic fixtures, just not my thing. So I’m off to finding something a little more durable but still affordable. Wish me luck!

George Kovacs Second Marriage Double Wall Lamp

Yeah, I know…How weird is that name for a lamp, right?
It was my first online lighting purchase, I usually have to see/touch the product to make sure I like it, but this time I decided to trust all the good reviews this lamp had and I have to say, I’m glad I did. The lamp is what I was looking for, the lights curve anyway you want, plus, there is a dimmer, in case if you want to read (knit:)) while your partner’s asleep. In terms of price+look = total score, I think.
