Perhaps not my smartest decision as a decorator (or a loving wife) but I can’t help it – I love it! Even though I get some very frustrated replies from V, like “next time, you’ll be cutting them”, I can’t help but admire the progress. So far, it’s coming out exactly like I imagined it.
Yes, slate is not easy to work with, especially if you’re laying it out in the herringbone pattern. Since it’s a stone, not all tiles are equal in size and it’s not easy to cut through it. V is matching each tile immaculately so the pattern doesn’t go off in the next row. I wish we had time to make a proper tutorial on how to work with slate to make it easier for other DIYers out there. I guess I'll just have to accept that this is not that type of blog after all:(
it looks absolutely spectacular! love the border around the room! :) huge thumbs up to V for all his hard work!
ReplyDeleteThank you! The border was my idea:) I'll pass on your words to him, he'll be pleased.
DeleteHope school papers are done soon and you'll return to blogging!
Beautiful! But I do feel for V - it's such a painstaking and no doubt frustrating process.
ReplyDeleteI try to make it up by saying how beautiful his work is and that this is a new skill, but not sure if it's working:( It really is a painstaking task! Thanks for your support.
DeleteI have the exact same herringbone slate look in my bathroom. The contractor grumbled, but it is so worth it. Your floor is looking stunning!
ReplyDeleteYes, I was considering it for our second bathroom too but hubby won't survive laying out this pattern again:) Your bathroom looks amazing by the way. Thanks for stopping by!
